The Basics

The Ponte Vecchio is one of the most famous bridges in Italy and a popular, crowded sight in Florence. A visit to the bridge is often included in city sightseeing tours and small-group walking tours through the historic center of Tuscany's capital city, along with other Florentine highlights like the nearby Pitti Palace, Boboli Gardens, Uffizi Gallery, and Michelangelo's David (housed in the Accademia Gallery a short walk away).

Learned a lot
Gotta do this when in Florence. Enjoyed the guided tours through the museums and learned a lot about the city's history. Ciara was very knowledgeable and personable. Highly recommended.

Very Enjoyable Museum Tour

Florence Full Day Tour with David, Duomo, Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio and More
Excellent 6.5 hour walking tour of key highlights of the galleries. Our guide, Ciara (SP?) was really knowledgeable. She was fun and personable and filled with facts. She knew short cuts to take in the galleries to maneuver through the crowds. She shared fascinating information and details - This kept my attention throughout the tour. We had an hour break for lunch on our own - so that was helpful in keeping that much museum time very workable. We felt it was a five star tour!

Florence Full Day Tour with David, Duomo, Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio and More
Francesca was a wonderful host— very knowledgable with a friendly and amazing personality. She answered so many questions and really kept the tour interesting and flowing. She showed us perspectives of the David that we would have never discovered ourselves and allowed an opportunity to take lots of photos along the way. Thank you for a great morning!

SUP at Ponte Vecchio with a Floating Drink - Florence Paddleboarding
A Fantastic experience, not to be missed. Tomasso makes everything clear and is super friendly, we had never Paddleboarded before but he put us at ease and we were soon sailing down the river with confidence. Honestly, one of the best holiday experiences i've had, cannot recommend highly enough!! Thanks Tomasso!

Cristiano and Chiara we're both wonderful. Cristiano waited for the last two members of our tour and when they could not find the correct location he worked hard to get them to where they needed to be. Both tour guides were insightful and I would highly recommend them.

Great guides Lots Walking Art Galore

Florence Full Day Tour with David, Duomo, Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio and More
Great tour with Francesca in the Am But be ready for a TON of walking and fast pace. I recommend a taxi to meet initial guid as being from IS and even paying for international Verizon mobile service the buildings and service are slim to non existent. We were walking in circles trying to find guide with language barrier and finally seen a taxi and made it almost 30m late. So thankful she was waiting on us!! She has such a wonderful personality and great knowledge!! Gave a lot of great recommendations for wine shops and bakeries. I cannot recall part 2 guide name but she was wonderful as well!! Again be ready for a lot of walking!! David was amazing but it can be a bit of art overload.

Our guide, Sylvia, was amazing!!!! This tour was a great way to see the highlights in one day and the best part was the skip the line access. That alone was worth the price of the tour.

Truly the best way to see two of Florence’s most important museums. Our guides Costanza & Jessica were highly educated on the subjects, incredibly kind & well organized. They made our trip to Florence & I will be forever grateful to them!

Florence Full Day Tour with David, Duomo, Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio and More
My husband and I had a wonderful day touring the city with Costanza Barlondi. She was extremely knowledgeable, patient, interesting, and seemed to know the answer to all of our questions, regardless of the topic! Because our group was small, it felt very personalized and we could take our time and learn about each of the sites we were visiting. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to hit all of the "must sees" in Florence.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The Ponte Vecchio is closed to traffic but is patrolled by police cars and other service vehicles.

  • The bridge leads to the Oltrarno neighborhood, a trendy part of Florence on the opposite side of the river filled with excellent restaurants and cafés.

  • There are no stairs on either side of the bridge, so it is fully accessible to wheelchairs and strollers.

  • The gold and silversmith shops on Ponte Vecchio are quite respectable—some have been there for a century—and are an excellent place to choose a special gift or souvenir.

How to Get to There

The Ponte Vecchio crosses the River Arno just a block from the Uffizi Gallery, linking the historic center to the Oltrarno neighborhood.

When to Get There

The center of Florence can be uncomfortably crowded during the popular summer months, and it can be a challenge to navigate the crowds on the bridge. Take an early morning or late evening stroll if visiting between April and October to savor the sunrise or sunset over the RIver Arno without the crowds.

The Vasari Corridor and the Ponte Vecchio

Located on the opposite banks of the Arno River, the 16th-century Vasari Corridor (Corridoio Vasariano) is an elevated passageway running between Palazzo Vecchio and Palazzo Pitti. Commissioned by Duke Cosimo I de' Medici in 1565 and designed by Giorgio Vasari, the walkway was once a secret route used by the Medici family to travel unnoticed through the city. Today, the corridor is used as an art gallery, and visitors can admire views over the Arno River from large windows added to the section of the corridor running over the Ponte Vecchio.
