The Basics

While the Grand Wailea and Four Seasons resorts harbor the resort crowd (celebrity sightings are not uncommon) the beach itself is public. This means, unlike in many resort areas, the beach is open to locals and those staying in non-waterfront accommodations. This makes the beach a go-to spot for snorkelers, sunbathers, bodyboarders, joggers, and more.

Wailea Beach is also the launch point for outrigger canoe trips, scuba diving lessons, and snorkeling tours. You can even find beginner snorkeling lessons that offer underwater scooters to propel you through the water. Snorkeling and scuba diving tours frequently include encounters with tropical fish and sea turtles.

My friends and I had an amazing time sea scootering with Tristan and his team! The team were so fun and helpful! The scooters were a blast to ride and we got to see lots of cool fishes, a turtle and a sea urchin! I highly recommend this tour! It's very beginner friendly; you don't need any snorkeling or swimming experience. You'll have a great time regardless of your experience! Thanks Tristan! Until the next time!

Sea Scooter Snorkeling Tour at Wailea Beach
Tristan was awesome. He was very qualified and knowledgeable of the equipment, the ocean and animals in the ocean. Very safety oriented. And WOW you will have fun doing it. The team handled any issue that would come up with the group. Like equipment, safety, or hazards. The scouters were way cool you hardly had work. What an experience. I would recommend this to everyone to try.

Sea Scooter Snorkeling for First Timers at Wailea Beach
The four of us are in our 50's and have snorkeled a little bit but this tour was a must do. Tristan and his crew were so fun to work with and taught us how to love to snorkel. The sea scooters are a must! We loved every minute. The video we purchased highlighting our trip will be a keepsake for a lifetime.

Sea Scooter Snorkeling Tour at Wailea Beach
Fun, must do, easy to learn, perfect amount of time because your thumbs get tired from pressing the button, I would switch from right to left when either thumb got tired. Cool spot to hang out for the rest of the day or go to big beach less crowded.

Sea Scooter Snorkeling for First Timers at Wailea Beach
It was our first time out snorkeling, Tristan and his crews were wonderful and knowledgeable. They made us feel safe in the waters the whole time. This was probably one of the best experience while in maui. Would recommend.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Bathrooms, showers, and free parking can be found near the public access points.
  • There are food stands and picnic areas at the beach. You can also enjoy a meal at one of the waterfront restaurants.
  • A paved boardwalk runs between the resorts and the beach, providing easy access for wheelchairs and strollers.

When to Get There

While you can enjoy Wailea Beach year-round, visit in the summer to ensure the best sunbathing. If you want to avoid the crowds, come in the spring or fall and avoid visiting on weekends or holidays. If visiting during peak season, arrive at the beach early to stake out a spot.
