8:30 AM
Plaça de Catalunya , Plaça de Catalunya, 08002 Barcelona, Spain

Depending on the size of the group and the traffic restrictions on the day of the tour, your tour will finish back at the office, or in Placa Catalunya, which is an easy 3-5 minute walk from the office.

Leave central Barcelona by air-conditioned minivan and set off on your day trip. As you travel, listen as your guide shares tales of Salvador Dalí’s life, and gaze out over the passing countryside and villages.

After a while, arrive in Figueres, Dalí’s birthplace and home to his famous Dalí Theatre-Museum. See the house where Dalí was born in 1904, and then continue to the museum. Home to a vast range of Dalí’s creations, it offers a unique insight into his works and artistic vision.

Marvel at the exterior with its giant, rooftop egg sculptures, and use your included ticket to skip any admission lines and head straight inside. Enjoy time to explore at leisure, and view everything from Dalí’s early experiments with cubism to later surrealist works such as the Galatea of the Spheres, and the famed Mae West Room installation.

Having explored here, reconvene with your guide and continue your tour as shown below depending on the time of year. For more details, see the Itinerary section.

Winter: Cadaqués and Port Lligat (September 1 - June 30):
Depart Figueres and make the scenic drive to Cadaqués. Admire this pretty seaside Costa Brava village, and get free time for lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant. Next, travel to Port Lligat, a coastal village where Dalí built a private retreat, now converted into a museum. Head inside (own expense) to explore, and after a panoramic drive around the spectacular Cap de Creus, finish your tour in central Barcelona.

Summer: Pubol Castle and Platja del Castell (July 1 – August 31):
Leave Figueres for Pubol Castle, once a home of Dalí and his wife Gala, located in the village of the same name. Visit the Gala Dalí House-Museum in the castle, and after lunch (own expense), venture to the attractive seafront town of Platja del Castell. Admire the castle-like house of muralist Josep Maria Sert, a friend of Dalí, where Dalí visited during the 1930s, and then return to Barcelona, where your trip ends.

Venture to one of the many beautiful beach side towns that dot the Costa Brava coastline. Please remember to bring suitable clothing if you want to enjoy a refreshing dip in the sea or relax on the beach.

Please note: The Salvador Dalí House in Port Lligat is closed between January 1 and January 4, and January 11 to February 11. On these dates, guests will see only the exterior of the house.

Dali Theatre-Museum
10.00am - You will arrive at the world famous Dalí Museum-Theatre in Figueres, the birthplace of Dalí, where you will be taken straight past the queues inside. Step inside the surreal world of Salvador Dalí and find a museum like none other. Dalí wanted visitors to see his massive collection as a ‘whole’ work, and for this reason he wanted no catalogues and refused to have his works placed in chronological or subject order. Inside is a world of fantasy mixed with architecture mixed with paintings and sculptures. It’s a complete surrealistic experience.
Duration: 2 hours
Admission Ticket Included
Stop At:
Cadaques
Schedule September 1st - June 30th 1.00pm - After a morning discovering the art of Dalí, you will head to the beautiful coastal village of Cadaqués. Famous for its white washed Mediterranean houses, narrow shady streets, and sandy bay, this is one of the most picturesque villages on the Costa Brava. But what really stands out for many people is the dramatic drive there, which offers some of the best views in the whole of Catalunya. This is the perfect place for lunch. In the afternoon you will travel just a few minutes up the coast to the even smaller village of Port Lligat.
Duration: 2 hours
Admission Ticket Free
Stop At:
Salvador Dali House
Schedule September 1st - June 30th 3.30pm - Port Lligat is where Dalí sought the peace and quiet that truly inspired him. This stunning little bay is where he first built then enlarged a simple fisherman's cottage into a magnificent and unique home. You will have the chance to visit inside this unusual building. His studio looks as if he has just stepped out for a stroll, and thanks to the careful way it has been maintained, it's easy to image he is still living in the house. Your guide will regale you with stories about his life there and the, share some secrets about his unusual marriage to his beloved Gala. NOTE: Your tickets will have been pre booked by the office. If you want to take advantage of this, please pay the guide during the day.

Gloria our guide lead us through an intense day thinking about Dali and his art, and putting it in historical context. We learned a lot about his life and about the things he grew up with and saw every day. Amazing feeling to stand in his shoes for a few hours. But even if you’re not a Dali fan, that the tour is wonderful and scenic.

The museum and seeing all his absolutely incredible artwork was a highlight for sure, but then to visit Cadaques and Port Lligat where he resided was experiencing his intimate life. Our wonderful guide for the day, Arnau (pronounced like Arnold) made it an enlightening day with many insights into both Dali’s life and his relationship with his wife Gala. We were not rushed, and felt safe on the windy roads. This is a difficult day to navigate on your own, so taking a tour to this beautiful area is the way to go.

Great Barcelona Day Trip!

Stephen was a great guide! This was a memorable day and we enjoyed seeing the Dali Theatre Museum in Figueres, eating lunch in Cadaques, and visiting Dali's home in Port Lligat. I looked into trying to arrange the transportation on my own with trains/buses/cabs and it would have been a logistical nightmare. This made it very easy and the cost really wasn't that much more.

Our guide, Jordi from Explore Cataluña absolutely made the trip! He is such a wealth of knowledge about Dali and the Cataluña region! Besides the Dali sights in Figueres, Cadaques, and Portlligares, the drive between towns in the Cap de Creus National Park with views of the Pyrenees Mtns was awesome. I highly recommend this tour. We had visited the Dali Theatre Museum on a previous trip, but found it equally enjoyable on the second visit. By leaving the tour in Cadaques, we had transportation to pre-arranged lodging for a brief stay in the beautiful resort. (Be advised that return to Barcelona via public transportation is a challenge!)

A trio of discovery
Xingcen_Z

I am a fan of Dalí but never knew his life as an artist. Thanks to Alnau’s detailed explanations, I came to know the milestones of Dalí’s life in a very short time. He is friendly and knowledgeable, he treated everyone with respect. I’m specially thankful because he went out of his way to help me with my business. The drive was a bit long though, at some point it was difficult to keep awake to not miss the interesting stories. But since it’s best to utilize the travel time to tell more stories and insights, I can’t really complain about it. Overall, it was well worth the money and I would recommend you to join this trip!
