Return Details

Returns to original departure point
In the morning, meet your air‐conditioned coach in the French Quarter and settle in for the approximately 30‐minute ride to the town of Jean Lafitte, a historic fishing village named for a notorious 19th‐century pirate and privateer. Located deep in the wetlands at the edge of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park, this town offers an authentic look at Cajun culture and local enterprise, including logging, plantation agriculture and a rich – and often grisly – tradition of animal trapping.

Before heading out on the water, pop into the albino alligator exhibit and grab a delectable shrimp Poboy to go (own expense).  Enjoy the proximity to the water surface and warm breeze as you zip through the bayou.  Spot lurking alligators, snakes, raccoons and giant river rodents called nutria. Savor the moments of calm when the boat slows and your native captain shares stories and facts about the area’s history and the surrounding wildlife – and maybe even interacts with an animal or two!

Your bayou adventure ends with a return to the French Quarter by coach, arriving in mid‐afternoon.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Airboat Adventures
Travel by air-conditioned coach from central New Orleans to the nearby fishing village of Jean Lafitte, named after an 18th-century smuggler. Home to a variety of diverse cultures, this area surrounded by Lousiana bayous has been the site of extensive logging operations, sugar and rice plantations and animal trapping enterprises over the years. Today, the people's simple way of life is a marked contrast to the hustle-bustle of New Orleans. In Jean Lafitte, you can get some snacks (own expense) and check out an albino alligator exhibit before boarding your airboat, a vessel that relies on an aircraft-type propeller mounted on its back to move it forward. Feel the wind in your hair as your move swiftly over the wetlands. Your native boat captain will talk about the history and culture of the area and point out wildlife as you travel. See lots of alligators lurking in the marshes, as well as local birds, raccoons and nutria -- giant river rodents that call the bayous home. Conclude your 4-hour family-friendly escape to the Louisiana wetlands with coach transport back to central New Orleans.

Fun Trip!

The swamp boat tour was a lot of fun. Only negative was that our boat did not feed any gators. We went in November and they don't come out much. I did see other boats feed them but our guide did not want to give them marshmallows unless the gators came out to the boat. Definitely wear sunglasses. We were in the front and the boat goes really fast and is rough on your eyes. Also, hold on to your ear protection. Mine blew right off my head. Really a lot of fun!!

Our tour was 6 weeks after hurricane Ida and was still able to go out. Still a lot of devastation but still able to see the beauty of the bayou. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and fun. We had a great time and saw tons of alligators.

Captain T was very entertaining. I appreciated his knowledge of the area, the impact of the recent storms, and the ever changing wetlands and bayou. We saw lots of gators, a spotted owl, and two types of egrets.

My daughters and I did this tour yesterday. We loved it. We saw around 10 alligators. The best part was going fast in the boat. Kevin got all 3 of us wet on the ride.
