Overview
When it comes to taking pictures, smartphones have made us lazy. During this half-day photography workshop, get excited about the pictures you take and start to see them as works of art. Few places are as photogenic as Sedona. Red rocks carved by wind and water backdropped by desert blue skies. See through the eyes of a patient professional and leave with shots you'll want to hang up on your wall.

Shooting the Milky Way
Bill_S
, Oct 2020
David reached out to us right after booking to find out our skill level and what we wished to learn. Great experience and learned a lot.
The day started early as we made into a full day. We went to many locations. David knew the amount of time that could be spent at each spot of that we could maximize what he wanted us to experience. Day ended with shooting the Milky Way high up on rocks. It was scary coming down in the dark, but David took it slow.
A fun but educational experience

I decided last minute to attend this workshop as we were in Sedona and we were not sure we would actually get on our trip due to Covid-19. Luckily I talked my wife in to joining us for the experience. David was very thorough with his pre workshop documentation which we filled in the day before so that he could tailor the workshop for our needs. We were the only participants on this occasion so we had David’s full attention. My wife is the queen of “auto” with her camera and hence he coaxed her gently out of her comfort zone to experience the benefits of “manual” settings on her camera. I had a little experience, but gained a lot from the morning. I came away with a much better understanding of the benefits of working in “manual mode” and carried that on to our trip to the Grand Canyon which is where we headed directly after the workshop. David made the whole experience fun although by the end of the morning he and my wife were picking on me but probably deservedly so!!! We finished off with a delicious lunch and review of our work. I would highly recommend this workshop especially for beginners and aspiring amateur photographers alike and I felt personally, as did my wife, that we gained a lot from the morning.
This tour was a gift. The Tour...

This tour was a gift.
The Tour is a great opportunity to learn from a professional photographer.
I had some concerns because of my artificial knees.
David tailored the tour in consideration of my lesser mobility and being out of shape.
When required, he also provided assistance with the camera equipment to get across short paths that were challenging for me.
David chose great areas to photograph, at each place he provided guidance about how to approach the photograph.
After the first location, we stopped and he reviewed the photographs taken and provided constructive feedback. At another Stop later he showed some of the photographs he had taken that day.
He was focused on your tour being a fun and learning experience.
This also included his sharing his lessons learned, reasons for equipment choices, and shooting in weather.
Lunch and drinks were provided.
I had a great experience and would do it again.

David is an outstanding photographer and an excellent teacher who is very flexible in his approach. He is a knowledgeable guide with a great comprehension of the area. He took us to several different locations with wonderful views and opportunities to photograph a variety of beautiful areas. Plus he makes the experience so much fun. This was the highlight of our trip. We would highly recommend Journey in Common and would love to book another tour with David in the future.
The Sedona photo tour was very well...

The Sedona photo tour was very well organized. The communication before the actual tour was excellent. David, via email and text messages, provided a very detailed information on what to expect, how much and what kind of hiking is involved, how to dress. He very promptly answered all questions. Also, he provided a very up-to-date weather forecast. When we met in the morning before the tour, he again went over all the details and gave a brief intro into photography basics and, which is always very helpful, showed several images and emphasized on common mistakes in composition, lighting, etc. During the tour, David was very helpful in pointing to the most interesting views and suggested the best camera settings. And, there was lunch. It was really very good, again with attention to small details on presentation. The desert was delicious.
In addition to above technical details there was another very important human factor. David is a very personable man, easy to get along with and with great sense of humor. I really enjoyed the time we spent together. Al in all, it was a very well professionally organized tour with a great personal touch.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
